What Does Psychotherapy Entail?

We offer psychotherapy (talk therapy) when clinically appropriate, providing a supportive and confidential space to explore emotional concerns, life challenges, and patterns that may be affecting your well-being. Our approach is primarily psychodynamic, which focuses on understanding how past experiences, relationships, and early life patterns influence current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Unlike cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), another widely-used approach that is often more structured and skills-focused, psychodynamic therapy emphasizes self-reflection, emotional insight, and deeper exploration over time. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your individual needs and goals. We can also help coordinate referrals to other therapists or mental health providers to support your care.

Who May Benefit from Psychodynamic Therapy?

The psychodynamic approach may be a good fit for individuals who:

  • Want to explore past experiences and life history
  • Notice repeating emotional or relationship patterns
  • Prefer an open-ended space to speak freely
  • Are interested in self-reflection and deeper insight
  • Feel less drawn to skills- or behavior-focused therapies
  • Are open to a thoughtful, longer-term approach
