What is Ketamine Therapy?
Ketamine therapy is a modern treatment for depression, especially for people who have not responded to traditional antidepressants. Originally used as an anesthetic, ketamine has been found to produce rapid improvements in mood at much lower doses.
Unlike standard medications that can take weeks to work, ketamine often begins to relieve symptoms within hours to days. It works on different brain pathways, helping restore connections involved in mood, thinking, and emotional regulation. Because of its fast-acting effects, it can be an important option for individuals experiencing severe or persistent depression.
All treatments are provided in our monitored mobile treatment unit. We come to you, which makes treating depression even more convenient and accessible. Since patients are not able to safely drive after a treatment session, this also eliminates the need for a designated driver.
Forms of Ketamine Therapy
We offer two forms of ketamine therapy.
Intravenous (IV) Ketamine: delivered directly into the bloodstream through a vein, allowing for precise dosage control and rapid onset of effects.
- Administered in-clinic under medical supervision
- Typically lasts about 40–60 minutes per session
- Allows for individualized dosing adjustments
- After treatment, patient should not operate a vehicle for 24 hours
Intranasal (IN) Ketamine: delivered as a nasal spray, offering a less invasive alternative to IV treatment.
- May be a good option for patients who prefer to avoid needles
- Still requires monitoring during and after treatment for 2 hours
- After treatment, patient should not operate a vehicle until the next morning
At the moment, these are off-label use. Spravato (esketamine) is the only FDA-approved ketamine treatment for depression. Due to the mobile nature of our clinic, we are not able to offer Spravato.
